Day 6: Osaka + Sakai

Day 6: Osaka + Sakai

Breakfast was banana French toast at the Book and Bed

Sakai

Side trip to Sakai, which is a smaller city about an hour from Osaka and is known for its knife makers.

I visited the knife museum and knife shop, as well as a a few knife maker workshops. I bought a cool knife, but unfortunately neglected to take a picture before they boxed it up.

Takoyaki

Takoyaki from Wanaka Sennichimae Honten

An Osaka street food specialty. Takoyaki are fried balls filled with octopus and batter hot enough to melt steel beams, with various toppings. I almost burned my fingers just trying to take this photo.

Dotombori

Spent the evening around Dotombori, one of Osaka’s main nightlife districts along the river.

Okonomiyaki — savory pancakes with various toppings, cooked in front of you on a griddle. They’re normally made from cabbage, but the Osaka version uses Japanese yams, which are kind of slimy.
